Behind every order that leaves MGX is a team working to make sure the right materials get where they need to go—accurately, efficiently and on time. Helping lead that effort is David Gilley, recently promoted Shipping Manager at MGX.
David has been with MGX for three years, bringing previous warehouse experience with him while learning what he calls “the MGX way of doing things.” Since joining the company, he has become an important part of a shipping team responsible for keeping products moving and customers supplied.
For David, no two days are exactly the same. His mornings typically begin with checking emails and handling anything time sensitive before moving into preparing skids, scheduling shipments and making sure his team has what they need to complete the day’s work.
That can be especially challenging when order volume is high and deadlines are tight. David has worked in warehouses since he was 18, and he says one of the biggest challenges has always been making sure the team completes everything on time—even when things get busy.
David works to maintain the same steady temperament regardless of what the day brings. That consistency is an important quality in a role where priorities can shift quickly and teamwork is essential.
When we asked David what stands out most about working at MGX, David pointed to the amount the team accomplishes together.
“The fact that we’re a small crew but we get so much accomplished every day.”
David brings that same team-first mindset to his role. Beyond managing shipments, an important part of his day is making sure the people around him have the support they need to get the job done.
Those qualities—calm under pressure, integrity, and a focus on supporting the team—make David a natural fit for his new leadership role in Shipping and Receiving.
Outside of MGX, music plays a big part in David’s life.
He has been collecting records since he was a teenager and has built a collection of nearly 2,000 records. He’s also a drummer who has played in bands for 24 years.
His favorite piece of advice, “Pick your battles,” may also explain some of that calm he brings to work. David’s philosophy is that there will always be things outside of your control, so it’s important to know where to focus your time and energy.
