At MGX, strong relationships are at the heart of how we do business. Few people embody that approach better than Josh Underhill, our Business Development Representative for the Central region. After nearly five years with MGX, Josh continues to help merchant partners and their customers uncover new opportunities through product education, collaboration and a genuine interest in the people he works with.
Josh’s workdays can look very different depending on where he is. While traveling, he meets with MGX merchant partners to provide product training and join their representatives on customer sales calls. These meetings help printers better understand how specialty substrates can expand their capabilities, differentiate their businesses and pursue applications beyond commodity print.
When Josh is working from home, his focus shifts to following up with merchant representatives, discussing potential projects, checking quotes and helping customers navigate product availability. Whether he is on the road or on the phone, his goal remains the same: keep opportunities moving forward and help customers find the right solution.
Sales often requires patience. As Josh explains, the work completed today may not produce visible results until much later. Staying connected, following through and continuing to build trust are essential parts of the process.
Ask Josh about his professional superpower, and his answer is simple: he can talk to anyone.
That ability goes beyond being comfortable starting a conversation. Josh takes the time to get to know customers both personally and professionally. By understanding their businesses, challenges and goals, he can help identify opportunities that may not be obvious at first glance.
“I enjoy building relationships with people and getting to know them,” Josh said.
His approachable personality makes him a valuable resource for merchant representatives, print service providers and the broader MGX team. In an industry built on partnerships, Josh understands that meaningful conversations can lead to meaningful business.
Of MGX’s five Core Values—Resourcefulness, Integrity, Commitment, Excellence and Care—Resourcefulness resonates most strongly with Josh.
For him, being resourceful means looking beyond the easiest or most immediate answer. It means listening carefully, understanding what the customer is trying to accomplish and finding a practical path forward. Sometimes the right answer may even involve recommending an option outside MGX’s portfolio.
“I feel like I am good at finding a solution for our customers, even if it isn’t with us sometimes,” Josh explained.
That customer-first mindset reflects an important part of the MGX approach. Success is not only about making a sale. It is about becoming a trusted resource customers can rely on when they need honest guidance.
When asked what stands out most about working at MGX, Josh did not hesitate: the people.
From the front office to the production floor, he appreciates being part of a team that works together to serve customers and support one another. That collaboration is especially important in business development, where delivering a successful solution often requires coordination across sales, customer service, operations and production.
